At the beginning of 2013, I gave myself the task of finding beauty in the everyday.  This blog began as an exercise in presence, in really being where I was, regardless of whether that was in an apartment in LA, working as a costumer on a film, or playing with my nephew in the backyard.

And now, as I become more present, the beauty that surrounds us on this little, spinning planet, is undeniable. Everyday moments can easily be overlooked and taken for granted, but they are really what it all comes down to…lessons that are hard but get us where we need to be, flowers in the  neighbor’s yard which you didn’t notice until this morning, heartache, belly laughs, lightening storms, long phone conversations with friends who live in other cities but help you feel slightly less crazy, first dates, first drafts, first kisses, first anythings really, a good cup of tea, the grey area between the obvious, beautifully written sentences, surprising yourself, and the list goes on and on.

Whether I’m working on a film, traveling in a foreign country, or cooking in my kitchen, beauty is there.  Empty days with time to create, busy days full of work, and adventurous days with no plan, where anything can happen; they play off of each other and help me appreciate each for what it is.

I am committed to helping others to both see and create the beauty in their everyday lives as well. What did you want to be when you grew up? What makes you happy now? What is your vision for the life you want to create? The time is now. Your life is here. It is beautiful.  And Smagik.
